Christchurch-built.
NZ to the core.
TAP8 is a New Zealand-owned range of smart NFC products, founded in 2026 and built in Christchurch. One tap opens whatever you choose — no app, no subscription, no fuss.
Made by people who tap, too.
TAP8 started in Christchurch with a simple idea: sharing who you are should take one tap, not a stack of paper cards. We engineer every product around the NTAG215 chip — the most compatible NFC standard in the world — and build outdoor products weatherproof, so they last.
How TAP8 started — and why we think it matters.
We didn't set out to build a tech company. We set out to fix something small, useful, and quietly broken about how New Zealand businesses share information with their customers.
The idea came to Runa. She'd been looking at how often the simple things — a contact detail, a menu, a property listing, a Wi-Fi password — were locked away inside a printed object that went stale the moment it left the printer. There had to be a better way. Something that didn't ask anyone to download an app, scan a QR code in dim lighting, or squint at tiny text. Just one tap.
She took the idea to Devang, our Head of Engineering and Solution Architect. He looked at the brief, asked the hard questions, and confirmed what Runa already suspected — it could be done, properly. Together, they shaped the technical foundations: scoped the chip, built the spec, briefed a specialist freelancer, and turned a sketch into a working prototype.
As the first products started taking shape, Sheetal and Abhi heard what we were building — and saw the same gap we did. They joined as Business Development Managers, bringing the experience of having sat on the other side of the table: the small business owners, the venue managers, the tradies who'd love something simple but had been let down by the over-engineered alternatives.
Today, TAP8 is for people in Christchurch with nine NFC products, one shared belief, and a small but growing list of customers across New Zealand. We're proudly NZ-owned. We make our products here. And we don't think technology should ever feel complicated.
